Deep in Scripture
I’ll be on Deep in Scripture on EWTN radio at 2pm EST today. We will be discussing Acts 8:26-40. I believe a video stream will also be available on their website. Be sure to tune in!

Today is Catholic Media Promotion Day, so I think it is fitting that I make an announcement about a new Catholic media program I’ll be involved in:
Starting next Tuesday, March 22nd, I will be co-hosting a local Catholic radio show on WMET 1160AM, which airs in Washington, DC. Called “Catholic Matters DC”, we will be talking to local Church officials, political and cultural leaders and other Catholic figures about issues that matter to Catholics. My co-host will be Irene Lagan, the General Manager of WMET, and the show will air on Tuesdays at 12noon.
I’m very excited about this show, as we plan to address a whole gamut of issues – even controversial ones (in the first episode we are going to discuss the whole Live Action deception issue that has been so heated the past few weeks). We also plan to involve our audience via the new media by allowing our listeners to email and text in questions during the show.
If you are local, please listen in – and if you are not, you can still listen online at grnonline.com.
As I mentioned last week, I was on the Catholic Answers Live radio show last Friday discussing my book Who is Jesus Christ? and it was a blast! Patrick Coffin and Darin DeLozier are extremely welcoming hosts and I pray that we were able to help people draw closer to our Lord during the hour I was on.
If you missed the program, you can download it at the Catholic Answers Live show calendar (I am listed on November 5th), or directly from my website.
A new Catholic radio station has started up, and its a big one: 50,000 watt WQOM-AM 1060 in Boston began broadcasting yesterday. Welcome to the world of Catholic radio, Boston!
Speaking of Catholic radio, I’m going to be on Catholic Answers Live this Friday (11/5) from 6-7pm EST. I’ll be discussing the topic “Who is Jesus Christ?” and taking calls from listeners.
Also, a reminder: I am on the Son Rise Morning Show with Brian Patrick every Thursday morning at 7:05am EST.
I’ll be on the Kresta in the Afternoon radio show today at 5:20EST discussing my book Who is Jesus Christ? Unlocking the Mystery in the Gospel of Matthew.
Also, a reminder: I’m on the Son Rise Morning Show every Thursday at 7:05EST.
Check it out!
Two important announcements regarding Catholic radio:
1) I’ll be starting a weekly series on the Son Rise Morning Show this Thursday at 7:00am. I’ll be going through the title given to Jesus as found in the Gospel of Matthew (in other words, I’ll be going through the chapters of my book).
2) The Catholic radio station here in DC – Guadalupe Radio Network – is holding a Radiothon this week and desperately needs your support! Catholic radio has a great impact on an area, but it cannot stay on the air without financial support from listeners. I’ll be on the air today at 2pm talking about the importance of Catholic radio.
Please consider giving to this wonderful station – you can donate online at their website. (Also, the Radiothon means my segment tomorrow on the Son Rise Morning Show be preempted locally).
Pray for the growth of Catholic radio throughout the country!
Next week I’ll be in my home state of Ohio, and while I’m there I’ll be giving a talk and doing a radio interview.
On Tuesday, July 20th at 7pm at St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Youngstown, I’ll be speaking to the Society of Saint John Chrysostom, an ecumenical group composed mostly of Eastern Catholics, Orthodox and Roman Catholics. I will be talking about Catholic-Orthodox ecumenism and my recent involvement in the Orientale Lumen Conference here in DC. If you are anywhere near the Youngstown area on Tuesday, I’d love to see you there! (And if you are looking for a Catholic speaker for your group, click here.)
Next Friday, July 23rd, I’ll be an in-studio guest of the Son Rise Morning Show radio program (they are based in my hometown of Cincinnati). I’ve been a regular guest on the program for the past year, so it will be great to personally meet Brian, Matt and everyone involved in the show. I’ll try to refrain from any “WKRP in Cincinnati” jokes while I’m there.
Needless to say, blogging will be light (most likely non-existent) next week!
*Bonus points if you know the song referenced in the post title (without googling it).
**Double bonus points if you know the most likely place to hear this song today.
A few days ago I was on the Son Rise Morning Radio Show discussing some summer reading picks. This is a popular segment on the show where regular guests share some good books that would be worthwhile reading this summer.
My picks were:
Better Off: Flipping the Switch on Technology by Eric Brende
This is the story of an M.I.T. graduate who decides (along with his wife of 10 days) to live among a strict Amish community for 18 months with no electricity and no telephones. It is a fascinating read and quite thought-provoking. Brende is not anti-technology, but he instead is trying to remind us that we should evaluate new technologies before blindly embracing them.
The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis
This is my all-time favorite C.S. Lewis book. It is a fable of a man who finds himself among denizens of Hell making a day-trip to the outskirts of heaven. The key insight of Lewis here is that Heaven has an “open-door” policy, but those in Hell choose not to go there. This may sound like heresy, but it is in keeping with the insights of some past Saints (such as St. Catherine of Genoa).
Saint Among Savages: The Life of Saint Isaac Jogues by Francis Talbot
I just finished this in anticipation for a recent pilgrimage to the Shrine of the North American Martyrs (I should have some reflections on this trip in the near future). The book is a bit dated (it was written in the 1930′s) and a bit long (over 400 pages), but it is worth the read. The story of this great saint and his companions who gave their lives for the conversion of the Native Americans is quite inspiring.
Great news for DC-area Catholics: we are getting a Catholic radio station!
The Guadalupe Radio Network is bringing Catholic Radio to Washington D.C.
With great thanks and praise to almighty God as we want to announce that the nation’s capitol will soon be the home of another Guadalupe Radio Network station. On May 5th WMET 1160 AM will begin broadcasting Catholic Radio 24 hours a day. And what an amazing impact this station will have in bringing souls closer to our Lord and the holy Saints, an impact that has the potential to reach far beyond the immediate listening area.
WMET is a powerful 50,000 watt AM radio station which will blanket all of Washington D.C. and the surrounding area with the beautiful message of Christ’s Good News through His One, Holy Catholic Church. In fact, the signal covers Washington DC and stretches on into Baltimore, Anapolis and beyond Arlington VA, along with dozens other cities across the metroplex. Over five million people will soon have the opportunity to tune into Catholic radio on the Guadalupe Radio Network.
We need your help. We’ll be busy raising funds to ensure the long life of Catholic Radio in the nation’s capital and preparing for the official kickoff and blessing of the studio. We are very thankful to everyone who has prayed and worked tirelessly to make this vision a reality. We will need a local staff, many volunteers and countless ‘prayer warriors’ over these next few months. Please download the project plan, “Into the Deep” and about how you can help be a part of this incredible moment in the history of our nation’s capital and the local Catholic Church.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, please pray for us.
For those who are interested, I’ll be on the Son Rise Morning Show tomorrow morning (3/23) at 8:40AM EST speaking about the stages of the Catholic Ecumenical Movement. You can stream the interview live at Sacred Heart Radio.
I’ll be on the Son Rise Morning Show on Cincinnati’s Sacred Heart Radio (740AM) on Monday the 14th at 8:40AM. If you live in Cincinnati, be sure to tune in (did you hear that, Mom?). You can also stream the broadcast at sacredheartradio.com.
I’ll be discussing how new technologies like ebooks impact our ability to understand the Bible. You can see some of my thoughts on this topic here.
Be sure to listen in!
