Pray the Rosary!
Today is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, and October is the month of the Rosary. This is a great time to restart our devotion to the Rosary if it has been lax, or to strengthen our resolve if we have been faithfully using this powerful weapon. I wrote an article for my diocesan paper about the Rosary, so I wanted to share it here:
The rosary: its history, use and power
There is perhaps no object more distinctively Catholic than the rosary. Yet many Catholics are no longer personally familiar with this form of prayer. As such, Bishop Frank J. Dewane has called upon our Diocese to rediscover this beautiful heritage and reawaken our love for it. As we celebrate the Month of the Rosary in October, we should take this opportunity to deepen our understanding and appreciation of one of the most common prayers of the Church. Where did we get the rosary? Why do we pray it? Why do some object to the praying of the rosary, claiming that it is unbiblical or antiquated?
Also, the Rosary had a powerful impact on my own conversion to the Catholic Faith, which you can read about here.

Thank you for posting this, Eric, and for your ministry! God bless you, and happy Feast Day! Go Dominicans and go Rosary!
I was just thinking of you the other day. It’s great to see you blogging again! How’s everything going in the new Florida digs?
I just clicked over here a few days ago to see if you were going to start blogging again, and here you are! Glad to see you’re up and running. Hope you’re adjusting to your new positions well!
Well, I wouldn’t say I’m truly back yet. My plan is to eventually blog for the Diocese, but that hasn’t been set up yet. Until then, I’ll probably post articles I’m writing for them periodically.
And things are going great in Florida! Love the 70-degree, no-humidity October days!
The Lord Jesus told us to not say repetitious prayers, but to pray from our heart. To ascribe to Mary power to hear prayers is idolatry. Nowhere in the Acts of the Apostles or Epistles are there prayers to anyone other than God.
Eric,
I am happy too that you are back. I kept the link on my favorites knowing you would start up again. We miss you at SJN. Say hi to S and the family. A note to Tiffany: the saints we ask to pray for us were all still alive during the period of Acts. I’ll go out on a limb and say that Timothy asked Paul to pray for him. I’ll go even further out and say that St. John and all the other Christians in Ephesus asked the Mother of the Lord to pray for them! We’re just continuing to do what the Church did back at it’s beginning.
@Joan,
Please see this link – it addresses your concerns:

Wonderful goods from you, man. I’ve understand your stuff previous to and you’re just too excellent. I actually like what you have acquired here, certainly like what you are saying and the way in which you say it. You make it enjoyable and you still take care of to keep it smart. I can not wait to read much more from you. This is actually a terrific site.
There’s so much that a rosary represents. It continually reminds me that I have to do better in my faith and how I can simply do that by praying. I hope I do pray with it more often and hope that all of you are celebrating this month through the rosary.
