Interview with Fr. Benedict Groeschel

This interview with Fr. Benedict is a few years old, but well worth watching if you haven’t seen it yet. Fr. Benedict talks about his involvement in the civil rights movement, the future of the United States, Mother Teresa and other topics.

  1. I can understand Father Groeschel’s sorrow over losing Mother Teresa – I, too, cried when she died. I wanted to be a Missionary of Charity, but my health prevented that. It was a heartache and still is. God wanted me to do something else: write books that would make people love him more. It has been a fantastic voyage, through all nine books. I couldn’t have done that in Mother Teresa’s order. I wish I could meet another saint – but there are living saints: Pope Benedict XVI, Father Groeschel himself, Mother Angelica and Father Frank Pavone. I pray for their greater sanctity right now. We each of us need to be saints ourselves as well, so I hope that these many bloggers I know may reach for the stars as well.

  2. I don’t want to turn this thread into a Mother Teresa thread but I wanted to comment on something the anchoress wrote. I read somewhere that when asked about success, Mother Teresa said, I’m not called to be successful, I’m called to be faithful. That has resonated with me. I try not to think about whether or not I am successful; rather, I am called to be faithful. Secondly, I like Ralph Martin when he says we are called to be saints and missionaries. Those three things – saint, missionary, and faithful follower of Our Lord. If we all thought of ourselves in that way, that that is our goal in life, and that it’s attainable to all by asking for and cooperating with God’s grace, we would all get to heaven when we die and we would be experiencing a glimpse of heaven here on earth.
