		<description>I would actually argue, Eric, that Protestants do unwittingly believe in salvation by works. After all, they believe they must &quot;accept Christ as Lord and Savior&quot; - but the act of &quot;accepting a gift&quot; which can be rejected is a &quot;good work&quot; - it is something we do! They really cannot avoid admitting their cooperation in salvation is required by God and in fact necessary.</description>

One of the problems with discussing Protestantism is that there is no unified system of belief. In general, Protestantism discounts works and believes we do nothing to contribute to our salvation, but there are definitely Protestants, like your Baptist friend, who recognize the error of that way of thinking.</description>

		<description>I do not understand.  I had a Baptist friend who believed that we are saved by our actions and by the grace of God.  He did not believe there was any guarantee.</description>
