Come, let us adore him

Speaking of embodied, Incarnational means of interaction, I can think of no better example than Eucharistic Adoration. By adoring our Lord in the sacred host, we are able to use our entire body and soul in worship to our Creator.

My parish is blessed to have a 24-hour adoration chapel and I am a firm believer that it is a great means of grace for the whole parish – even to those who do not attend. Once I was asked to speak to the parish at the end of Mass about ways to become more involved. I told the congregation to make an effort to go to adoration for an hour a week and the rest would figure itself out. Adoring our Lord is much more important than any group or committee they could belong to.

Catholic News Agency reports that Eucharistic Adoration has had a wonderful impact in Uganda [1]:

Eucharistic Adoration in Uganda is attracting more lay people to prayer and encouraging vocations, an international Catholic charity reports.

Sister Consolate Shirima of the Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, based at Holy Trinity Monastery in Arua, on the northwest border of the country, discussed the phenomenon with Aid to the Church in Need (ACN).

She said that over the past five years, increasing numbers of lay people have joined the sisters for adoration. An estimated three or four hundred faithful join the monastery for prayer on Sundays, while daily visitors to the monastery’s chapel are so numerous the order has appointed a sister to look after them.

If you have access to an adoration chapel, make an effort to go at least once a week – I guarantee that your life will be changed.
