1st Sunday in Lent

I’ve posted my reflection on this Sunday’s readings, in which I compare Christ’s temptation in the desert with Adam’s temptation in the Garden.

Reflections

  1. It is also the source of another connection, that of 40 days as the length of Lent. Doesn’t 40 days have significance in the old testament?

  2. You are right Bob. In fact, the origin of Lent is the ancient Egyptian practice of imitating the 40 days of Christ in the desert – it wasn’t originally related to Easter. It was in the 4th century that it was moved to the time of preparation for the Feast of the Lord’s Resurrection.
